Chapter Thirty

October 1, 2048

The great thing about being the groom is that you are told when and where to show-up, you are told what to wear and for the most part, that’s it! The poor bride on the other hand is the Barbie doll that is posed and dressed and generally doesn’t have much in the way of deciding what’s going to happen at her wedding.

Casdoa was in that way fairly typical; she had picked out her own wedding dress and had paid for it herself. She had chosen four of her closest friends as bridesmaids. And as for the rest, she let First Lady Andrea Adams as the official White House hostess and her mother iron out the rest of the details. In fact she had spent the morning at the firing range requalifying in all of the weapons she was required to be able to use in her position as a Federal Agent.

“You look amazing dear!” Her mother told her with tears in her eyes.

“Thanks Mom, I appreciate you telling me that.” She said calmly.

Once again she was on the low table that allowed the others to check over her dress and train one more time. Cass though was in a meditative state letting it all flow around her like being a rock in the middle of a stream.

Soon the word was passed that all of the guests were seated and that it was time to begin. The organist went from playing calming mood music into the rousing strains of the Wedding March. Frank and his four Groomsmen strode out of the side room and went directly to their spots which were conveniently marked with masking tape in the carpet.

Then the double doors at the back of the room were opened and Cass and her father came down the aisle. Frank was amazed at the changes in her that the wedding gown enhanced… her loveliness and the mature, calm look on her face and in her eyes. All too soon though they were standing before the minister, Casdoa had been raised as a Catholic and Frank had been agnostic for the most part. There was the desire for belief and there was faith on his own part; wasn’t his coming back from being killed enough for that? But still he had doubts… So a minister of a non-denominational background had been found that they liked and supported the two’s desire to be married in holy matrimony.

Frank and Casdoa listened carefully and made responses as required of the questions asked of them. Finally they both heard… “I declare you Man and Wife! Mr. McClendon you may now kiss your Bride.”

After that it was the reception out on the South Lawn and the unfortunate Paparazzi and Media News Cameras that could see over the fence line.

As the news commentators kept talking back and forth to each other there were mostly questions about Frank as the Grim Reaper and his wife Casdoa McClendon formerly Roybal. It was readily understood about why they had been invited to have their nuptials at the White House.
